straight hair can stand up in a fro like fashion i am mixed with black and native american also and my hair is a little wavy and it used to stick up like tht bc my roots were rly stiff so it stood up. Try braiding it and while its in braids wash it and condition it and it will "trick" itself into laying flat. hope this helps (:
